CHAPTER THREE

Every Word You Say

This story and its subsequent follow-ons are a work of pure fiction. This is merely a story and should be treated as such.

Small glimpses of my surroundings flashed into view. The concrete structure seemed to stretch on forever in an echoed hall of pillars and cracked ground. Every flash only allowed me a second of vision while I was left to piece them together into one cohesive picture. Like the stutter on old films, static that saw my imagination having to work overtime. The short sharp blinks of view gave me a general direction. Unfortunately it didn’t help me in any way whatsoever.

I was being tugged along the coarse floor with my hands bound above my head. I felt every indecent assault on my soft flesh from the lowliest pebble finding its way into my leg or the pothole he so mercilessly dragged me through rather than round.

I caught a soured scowl on his mug giving no more detail than I had previously. Wait… I… his face… I had seen it… Ahhhhhh. Memory eluded me. I had taken a hit directly to my face and only now as I recall was I feeling its after effects. A reminder coming the following second with a crimson orb of blood dropping into my eye turning my vision rage filled. My weakened body fell as he dropped my hands, unable to hold myself up. I stuck the floor with a dissatisfied limp. The slap of my body sent up dust which for a moment set off a coughing fit in the prick.

I was able to taut my lips into a grin. It lasted barely a moment but it caught him angry. He forced his foot against my chest as he kicked my ribs. I crumpled from the pain.

“Still laughing.” He smirked.

“I… I will be. When Danny kicks your ass.”

He dropped on one knee and moved closer to my face, wiping his finger gently across the cut on my head as if we were lovers. “Still hoping he’ll save you? Good. I want to be here when he disappoints you. I want to see that hope die in your eyes. I want to watch as…”

I spat a wad of blood and grime in his face. I was sick of his rambling. The taste of blood stained my tongue as well as my vision but I could see him clear enough to see the anger in his response.

He dug his finger into the cut, sending shooting pains all through my body. I was close to losing consciousness but I fought with all I had to refuse his satisfaction.

“Tough? You’ll be more fun to break. Maybe I was right after all to take you rather than the other one.”

“Wh… what are you talking about?” I roared through gritted teeth. I’ll admit, he got under my skin.

The darkness that surrounded him grew with a burst of energy that struck me. It's hard to describe with accuracy but it felt almost sentient in its malicious nature. Instead of taking the chains around my wrists, he took my hair instead. Yanking me from the ground I felt his heavy work boot on my spine as he launched me across the room. I stumbled when my midsection struck some sort of table. He was close behind with his hot breath stalking down my neck. It took my senses a moment to adjust. But even when they did, I refused to see what was before me.

On the table lay a series of monitors and laptops. The main screens read a series of numbers like a cipher or maybe binary code for some reason. I didn’t have enough time to check properly. Besides that, my eyes were firmly centred on the scene behind on the wall. Four monitors each making up one single picture. There were three of these spread across the wall. They turned from three set displays to twelve separate at his request.

I violently projected a stream of vomit mixed with blood from the dripping wound. I had the heavy taste of iron on the roof of my mouth. On the monitors was footage from Danny’s. Alongside that, my house, I hadn’t been there but I assumed the top left monitor was Olivia’s. One showed Tommy, another Danny’s ex-wife Lucy. He… this thing had been watching us. All of us. For how long? My reflex hit again at the thought of this creep watching our every move.

I barely avoided his scowl though the scent of distaste lay thick in the air. “Filthy. Just like your ‘Daddy’.” the venom in which he said that last word… The personal vendetta was clearly there, but only then did I realise, it wasn’t with me, it was with Danny. I had picked the scab, now I needed to dig.

“Danny Hayes, huh?”

No answer, but the radiation of his anger was growing. It seethed from his every pore. A pool or rage filled red oozed out of him infecting the room.

“So, what did he do?”

Again I found myself speaking to the empty void. However, this time I was feeling a shift. There was give where there wasn’t before. I was getting under his skin, and closer to figuring out what was going on.

“Did he steal the cookie from the cookie jar?”

No response save for an animalistic growl.

“No. Oh… did he frame Roger Rabbit?”

Raw was the energy as I could feel the air turn dangerously electric around me. He wouldn’t be able to hold out much longer.

“Did he reject you? I mean. No judgement. I like guys and girls too. And I mean Danny has the biggest coc…”

“Shut up. Shut up. SHUT UP!” He grabbed his head as if fighting some inner torment I was unable to see. “No. No. No. I will win. I will win. Not him. Never him. Never again.”

I was feeling every assault wit my vision finally failing. But even as I did, I managed a smile of defiance. One last spit in the face of god. Not that this prick was God, and I’d prove it when I make him bleed.

**********

I was woken abruptly with a splash of what I hoped was water striking my cheek. There was a sting in the cut on my forehead that burned like acid. “f*ck.” The slight was enough to sear rage into my body and mind.

“You f*ck.” I yelled in some hopeless attempt to get him off kilter. I hadn’t known the hour, the day or even the week. But my attempts were throwing pebbles at a giant. It had no effect. However long I was unconscious, he had centred himself and his malign plans. He was back to ignoring me as he studied his sick set of tv monitors.

He flicked me barley any notice. “It’s water, don’t worry, I know that's not your fetish. But that other one, Rachel… is it? Dirty girl.”

“Shut you f*cking mouth or I’ll shut it for you.”

“Easy puppy.” He mewed.

“Don’t f*cking…” It was then his taunt rang in my ear. I looked at my surrounds to see he had placed me in his sick fantasy with a large cage and a food bowl resembling a dog bowl.

“Be a good puppy and eat up. You’ll need your strength for later.”

“What… I… what the f*ck are you doing?”

“Preparing.” He said coldly. His voice and body taut. He sat up at his full height, taller than Danny, but not by much. His physique was more slight, not skinny, but lean. That was all I could gather before he approached. He held it in his hands… what… was that?

“My f*cking phone.” I launched myself at the bars reaching between two metal poles for his throat. He held little surprise when he flicked out a remote with the other hand and pressed the switch. Volts of electricity ran through my vocal chords and out in a whimper that left me weak on the cage floor. The pain coursed through me like I was on fire and my veins were the fuel.

“Smile.” He said, directing my pain as he panned around the cage to catch every moment of my agony. I hadn’t felt it, but his words lent to my embarrassment. “Oh puppy… is someone a little scared? Seems like you had a little accident.”

I looked down and for the second time I had evacuated my bowels with this son of a bitch at my side. “Fu… f*ck you.” I was still twitching from the shock collar I found strung to my neck.

“Now see here…” There was a morph in his voice. I had been around him long enough now to pin together a few truths. He had at least three personas. This one, he was the most dangerous. Gone was the whimsical cartoon villain that called me Puppy. His voice was more acute, reserved but like a coming thunderstorm, it read danger in the small hours. I knew all too well the change after living with my father for seventeen years.

“...this here, this is me in charge. Got it.”

“Piss off…” I managed before a second and thankfully shorter blast tore through my throat sending my voice in spirals. My vision blinked for a second before the blackness came again.

It could only have been a moment or two as he was still above me when my eyes blinked too.

“Let’s try this again shall we? I. Am. In. Charge.” With each word he gave a lite press and shocked me.

I wasn’t about to give the sick f*ck his satisfaction. “It’s amateurs like you who give kidnappers a bad name.” I scowled as I felt blood seep over my gums while I snarled.

“Bark all you want. Daniel won’t be here until I want him to.”

“What… what does that mean?” Seeing the cruel intent when he punished me, I feared what he wanted with Danny.

“It means, I’m not done playing just yet. He still has a lot to learn, and a lot of hurt to come.”

“If you knew him as well as you think you do…”

“I KNOW HIM. I am the only one who knows him. The real him. You know nothing, little girl.”

“I know, I know that you are nothing compared to him. A little bitch of a man who would rather hide behind his computer than face him. A stupid, arrogant little man. I bet he doesn’t even remember you.”

“He remembers me. He remembers me. I was there. It was me. I was there at his beginning…” He calmed, his demeanour shifting again. The cruelty he managed in a single look would have been a masterclass in acting if… you know he wasn’t a maniacal c*nt. “I was there at his beginning, and I’ll be there at his end.”

“Your end.” I said, holding my composure despite his intense and horrid stare down of me.

“We will see.” He turned his head sharply as he returned to his monitors. He tugged a chain which launched the cage he had me in toward him. “Thought I’d give you a good view. You can watch the bumbling fool try and fail to rescue you. And only once I watch that hope in your eyes die, then I’ll send him the invite.”

“Invite?” I mewed.

“Don’t think me a savage? No. I’ll let you see him, before I take everything from him. Like he did to me.”

I wouldn’t admit it to him, but my faith was beginning to wane. I didn’t know how long it had been.

A loud thump echoed through my confines as he placed his heavy combat boots on top and crossed his legs. He leaned back on his chair as if he was watching a movie. Glee in his face still shrouded by the hood.

“How interesting? I didn’t calculate him doing this.”

“Wh… what?” My moment of waver quickly disappeared.

“Watch… this is gonna be fun.” He licked his lips with a drop of his spit sinking into my cage.
