Charleston Community Band to perform

CHARLESTON — The Charleston Community Band's annual free concert series is scheduled to continue with a performance at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 6, at the Daum Amphitheater in Kiwanis Park.

John Kent and Eric Anderson Country Financial will provide free popcorn at the concert, and the Charleston Knights of Columbus will sell lemon shakeups.

Community members are invited to bring their lawn chairs and enjoy a wide variety of music performed by the volunteer musicians of the community band and guest conductor Laney Cruit.

The song lineup will feature "The Billboard March," "Summertime," "A Nation's Prayer," "Comedy Classics," "Amazing Grace," "Party Rock," "Baby Elephant Walk," "His Honor," and "Bohemian Rhapsody."

Movies return to Lytle Park

MATTOON — Mattoon Public Library brings free movies back to Lytle Park in Mattoon every Friday night though July 26.

This week's film is "Migration." (PG) This is a free family-friendly event. Bring your lawn chairs and/or blanket.

The movies are scheduled to begin at dusk.

Bobby Tomberlin and Friends to perform

MATTOON — An evening with Nashville songwriters playing a Nashville-style writers round will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, June 7, at the Mattoon Moose Lodge.

It will be led by Grammy and CMA nominated Bobby Tomberlin. Special guests will include Tess Frizzell, Calm Vrem, Chelsea Nolan and Zac Craven.

Admission will be a $10 donation at the door.

Fox Ridge work day set

CHARLESTON — The Embarras Volunteer Stewards will hold a work day at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at Fox Ridge State Park.

All are welcome and no prior experience is necessary. Sturdy footwear and gloves are recommended. Tools are provided.

Conner Lorre to kick off Linn Park Gatherings

MARTINSVILLE — The Summer Gatherings at Linn Park in Martinsville, 14 N. Mill St., will return at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 8, with Conner Lorre presenting a tribute to Neil Diamond.

All concerts at The Gatherings are free and are sponsored by Martinsville On The Move, but a donation will be taken during the show to help M.O.M. cover expenses. Attendees should bring lawn chairs. Food will be available for purchase beginning at 6 p.m.

Logan Kirby to perform at Boot City Opry

TERRE HAUTE — Logan Kirby and his band will perform gospel music from Elvis Presley's Grammy award-winning album "How Great Thou Art" on the Boot City Opry stage at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 8.

General admission tickets are $17 and available at the office, Boot City main register area, or at the door the night of the show. Reserved tickets are $22 and available in the office, at 812-299-8521 or online at www.bootcityopry.com.

Five Mile House sets open house

CHARLESTON — Five Mile House will hold its next open house of the year from 1-4 p.m., Sunday, June 9.

Music will be provided by Flat Mountain at 2:30 p.m.

Valerie Boroughs, RN, will present "Advances Leading up to 19th Century Surgery" at 1 p.m.

Activities for young visitors also will be available.

Organizers are currently looking for vendors offering vintage and antique items and unique crafts to sell. Text or phone 217-549-9942 for more information.

YMCA to hold pickleball fundraiser

MATTOON — Join the Mattoon Area Family YMCA for a day of pickleball as they support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, June 9, at North 16th Street, Mattoon.

This tournament is for players of all levels. Each player will need to donate $20.

Players can also signup on the day of the event. Spots are limited.

A first and second place winner will be announced.

Shelley Crouch featured at Effingham library

EFFINGHAM — The Suzette Brumleve Memorial Effingham Public Library is pleased to host the work of local artist Shelley Crouch in the Art Gallery through July 31.

Shelley Crouch is an author and illustrator from Casey. She is also on the Casey Library Board in Casey.

Crouch began painting at the age of 57 during the COVID quarantine when she lost her mother. She says that art was a great therapy that helped her to get through that difficult time.

The exhibit is free and open to the public.

ILICA Trap Shoot and Golf Outing scheduled

LERNA — The Illinois Land Improvement Contractors Association is hosting its 13th annual Area 6 Trap Shoot & Golf Outing on Friday, June 14, in Lerna.

The event starts with a morning trap shoot (50 clays) at McKillip Farm in Lerna followed by lunch at Meadowview Golf Course in Mattoon.

At 1 p.m., the 18-hole golf outing begins with a chance to win door prizes, cash hole prizes, and a 50/50 raffle.

After golf, the event wraps up at the clubhouse with awards announcements and a steak dinner.

Full event registration costs $110 and includes the trap shoot, lunch, golf, and dinner. Partial registration options are available, as well. Any individual or foursome is eligible to participate.
