  1. #1 Best Public High Schools in Louisville AreaDuPont Manual High SchoolJefferson County Public Schools, KY·9-12·Rating 4.23 out of 5 818 reviewsSenior: As a part of the MST program at duPost Manual High School, I was challenged more than I had ever been before in a school setting. The work was difficult, the workload was large, and the stress grew and grew through the years. Not only were the classes challenging, but the teachers taught at a very fast pace, keeping me in a rush to keep up with my classmates. While my time at duPont Manual has not been easy, I have grown as a student and as a person in many ways. I have learned how to be resilient, hard-working, and not give up when the work gets hard. I have learned to be a leader and to speak for myself in a room full of others. The schools motto is “Excellence, Diversity, and Tradition,” and duPont Manual lives up to each words. Along with staying true to the traditional values of the school, the diversity and excellence within the students and the administration shines bright. I believe duPont Manual is the perfect school for all students preparing for their future.... One of my favorite things about the school is that we have excellent academics and I have consistenly heard of alums who have made an impact wherever they go, which gives me the confidence to reach for high goals after high school. Additionally, our school offers a wide variety of AP classes for students to challenge themselves. One important thing to note about our high school is that it is a mostly white wealthier suburban community, which leads to a lack of student diversity, and sometimes feeling like students are in a "bubble".... 5. #4 Best Public High Schools in Louisville AreaLouisville Male High SchoolJefferson County Public Schools, KY·9-12·Rating 4.01 out of 5 607 reviewsJunior: My overall experience was great. Louisville male is a high school with a lot of history and pride in the way it operates. Everything was student centered there and opportunities were always presented for all. It’s very diverse and is medium sized.z There are two buildings with two gyms, auditorium and sport facilities. The best parts of my experience was going to clubs such as Honor Society and Black Student Union. The worst was after school activities such as football games as they can be unorganized, chaotic and stressful. I would like the quality of teaching to change here. We’ve had teachers who seem to not care and shortages of administrators. Overall, Louisville Male is a great school that prepares its students for college and the pros far outweigh the cons.... Each year I have been able to connect with at least one of my teachers, allowing me to feel comfortable to go to them in times of need. My teachers haven proven that they genuinely care about my future, and provide me with tips on how to get there. However, the has been little accurate information about how classes really are. For example, I took AP Seminar this past year, the information that was provided about the class was not extremely accurate, they told us that in the class it was going to be self-driven essays about a chosen topic, however I found out during the class that we were not given full freedom.... While the outside may not be the prettiest, the inside is filled top to bottom with beautiful student art that represents many different lifestyles and cultures. I personally think that it’s what makes Eastern unique because the students are really involved in the school. A great thing to have in any school is an approachable principal and Eastern has just that. Dr. Heather Orman is a very welcoming principal and is easy to directly contact as a student. Seeing her walking around the hallways makes it feel inclusive because you get to connect with her on a personal level, which is important if one wants to feel comfortable in their school. Eastern may be a science/ technology school, but their music programs are phenomenal. For the most part, New Albany is a great school that takes pride in their students and want the best education for them. Granted, there are several individuals who would rather take that for granted, teachers included, but that doesn't mean that it isn't a great school. She's been here since kindergarten and has had a wonderful experience every year academically and socially. Her teachers all communicated well and care deeply for their students and learning. I know some of the teachers have been training to do high ability programs, but they don't seem to have an official program in place yet. They're also limited as far as clubs/sports go on the elementary level, but those small issues will get better over time. They are growing every year and are trying to expand their offerings. I do wish they'd offer a yearbook specifically for the elementary students as well as class photos, but that's just a small gripe. As far as some other activities, they do back to school carnival/activities, a spring carnival, scholastic book fair, and have the Kona Ice truck come monthly when it's warm. I graduated with almost 40 credit hours through dual-credit classes offered here. The teachers and staff are arguably the best in the district. However, the food and safety were fairly lackluster. With the support from my Advisor (Tracy Pickman-Yates), I have been able to achieve more than 40 college credits before graduating high school. I am almost done with my Sophmore year of college before ever leaving high school! This is all because of how my school system is set up, and its foundation of learning at your own pace. The community in these classes and the teachers’ dedication to their students was intense and admirable, and made these experience all the more valuable to me. Some of the worst parts, however, were the food and the frequent bullying. We had pizza literally every single day of my senior year, and then on top of that had a pizza day every Thursday! Every meal was repurposed out of chicken nuggets or pizza and it made me so sick that I wouldn’t eat. Also, the school is located in southern Indiana, so a majority of my classmates had less-than-savory ideas about me and my other transgender classmates.
